Do you remember hearing that old saying that less is more? It may not hold true in the case of money, but if you are speaking of jewelry it could be. It is common to see someone wearing so many pieces of jewelry at one time, it is impossible to determine what any one individual piece looks like.
Layering your jewelry is one thing, when it is two or three necklaces that are of various lengths and are coordinated in their style so that they compliment each other and you. Women often do this when wearing beads. Sometimes they are the exact same beads worn in graduation and sometimes they are different colors.

What does not look good is if you wear six small gold chains with six different pendants and they all become tangled around your neck. So take a little time if you are considering wearing more than one necklace. Test the pieces together to see if they compliment each other in style and color. Sometimes things can look better if they just stand on their own.
The same principle should be applied when you are wearing multiple rings. Wearing several at a time is something that most of us do, either occasionally or all the time. Too many rings can present a look of gaudiness, and really end up making your jewelry seem cheap looking sometimes. If you are picking random earrings that are not made to match, try them on different ways to see how they look best.
This can take a little practice and a little time. When picking out sets of mismatched small stud earrings to wear together, a square piece of Styrofoam works well to insert them into while you are picking combinations. It is possible to wear multiple pieces of jewelry, but the key is when it looks tasteful and coordinated.
