Online Degree Programs Are They Worth The Money
Today, in the comfort of your own home, it is practical and economical to pursue that long sought after degree you’ve desired.
Online degree programs abound worldwide from traditional universities and colleges to specialty academic centers focusing on the exact field you may be interested in.
Do you want to earn your Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice? Portland State University has just the program geared to your needs? online and on- time and according to your time schedule. Interested in the culinary arts? The New England Culinary Institute offers an online Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality and Restaurant Management.
Aside from choosing the proper program to meet your needs and interests you should make sure that the institution you plan to study with through online learning is recognized by federal and state governments – and academia in general.
Importance of Accreditation
Is your particular online degree program accredited (by an accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education)?
Accrediting bodies ensure the course curriculum’s are approved by the federal government and these accrediting bodies themselves are recognized by the US Department of Education. The Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT0) in the New England Culinary Institute’s case and the Northwest Commission on Colleges & Universities in Portland State University’s case for example.
Why is this important to you?
This is important to you because in the future you may want to rise to the next academic level by studying for your Master’s or Doctorate degree. If your first-level degree is not from an accredited institution it will not be recognized. How’s that for wasting time, money and nights of sleep because the institution you chose wasn’t up to snuff in the eyes of the Department of Education?
Also, it looks better on your resume to advertise that your studies were delivered to you by a reputable school. One that is recognized for its quality, government-approved programs.
Online Degree Programs Checklist
There are some things to consider before choosing to further your studies in an online degree program:
* Do you have the discipline to study your ‘discipline’ outside of a classroom setting where there is no instructor or students? The only person you will be bringing an apple to is yourself.
* Are you up-to-date in the personal computer department? Does your home computer meet the system requirements required for the delivery of your particular program? And if not, can you afford to upgrade?
* Is online learning with its e-mails, web-based tutorials, online documentation, web-chats and assignment drop-boxes for you? Or would you prefer a good old-fashioned dog-eared textbook, sitting at a desk, staring at a dusty blackboard?
* Is your field of study better suited to a classroom setting? Some programs work well either way, some miss out a little because of the need for human physical interaction (e.g. hands-on work in a group setting sharing resources, and face-to face problem solving).
When your decision has been made to pursue distance education with an online degree program the worldwide web offers endless information on courses of study. Invest the time necessary to compare schools, programs, courses and the way in which these programs are delivered by each institution.
It would serve you well, if possible, to talk to others who have taken the program you’re interested in through the online degree program system. Ask them how they enjoyed the online learning experience. Ask them if they would do it that way all over again if they had to or would they choose a traditional learning system?
It’s funny, though, with the rapid advancements in technology, online degree programs may be the ‘new’ tradition in the future. Bricks and mortar learning will never cease but the wave of applicants enrolling in online programs suggests that this is the alternative ‘tradition’ for the 21st century.
So check out all the options available to you in distance education. The perfect online degree program may be a mouse click away from you. Just make sure your shirt-sleeve doesn’t get stuck in the macaroni and cheese dinner sitting in front of your monitor, as you make the move to study from the comfort of your own home.
And finally.
Buyer Beware!
Before you enroll in an online degree program check out the US Department of Education’s website or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to make sure your program is accredited.

Health and Safety E Learning
In this day and age of compensation claims for even the most minor strains and accidents it pays all employers to comply with Health and Safety regulations to cover themselves as well as their employees. The Health and Safety Executive regulations have, for a number of years now, made it a legal requirement for all employers to assess and reduce the risk to staff in the workplace.
Some employers, pressed for time as well as money, find this a problem. Whole work days are sometimes lost, venues need to be booked and paid for and transport provided. All this comes at the expense of the employer but surely cannot be as costly as the amount of sick days taken in the name of work related health problems.
Figures from the Health and Safety Executive for 2003/04 show that 448,000 British workers were reported to have suffered from work related musculo-skeletal disorders (the umbrella term for Repetitive Strain Injury). This was a staggering increase of 52,000 from the previous year.
Direct and indirect costs to society amounted to a phenomenal 5.7 pounds billion in the year 2004/5. The Health and Safety Executive attributes this to the 450,000 cases of workers absent through back complaints and 375,000 through back and upper limb disorders. Amazingly, they even report seven year old children to be suffering RSI complaints so schools also need to implement the regulations.
Repetitive Strain Injury is a common occurrence in offices where staff spend the majority of their day sat in front of a VDU, or DSE. Display Screen Equipment is a broader term for VDU and covers all the equipment at a desk including keyboard and mouse, which have been the cause of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome when used incorrectly.
DSE Risk Assessment and Training are Health and Safety requirements and are quite simple to practice. There are recommended guidelines for the angle of a VDU, the positioning of a keyboard, mouse, desk and chair. All should be set up for the individual employee to ensure comfortable working positions.
Employers are liable for the cost of sight tests for VDU operators when requested but there is no evidence that, when used properly, a VDU screen would cause any health problems. Only when there is unnecessary glare, bad posture or a wrongly positioned unit does a problem occur. There is certainly no evidence to suggest there is any worsening of eyesight from use of a VDU.
So, employees do not want to be injured at work and employers do not want to spend man hours and hard earned profits on Health and Safety Training. However, there is a solution. It is now possible to train all employers and their staff in all Health and Safety aspects without ever having to leave their badly positioned, overly bright VDU or their wonky chair.
It is now possible to meet all the legal requirements of Health and Safety Training on line. It is called Health and Safety e-learning. Risk assessments are set out for employers and employees can set their own agenda for DSE training thus reducing impact on work schedules. Training can be completed over time at a pace that suits the individual and training certificates can be printed out at the conclusion.
This solution is cost effective, requiring minimal resources and a Learning Development Advisor is assigned to the company involved to keep track of the training. It is also recommended that results be saved to a database to establish an audit trail and prove your company’s compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.

Put Pay Per Click To Work For You
PPC or Pay-Per-Click in full is one of the four basic types of Search Engines. PPC is also one of the most cost-effective ways of targeted Internet advertising. According to Forbes magazine, PPC or Pay Per Click, accounts for 2 billion dollars a year and is expected to increase to around 8 billion dollars by the year 2008.
Let us take a quick look at how PPC Search Engines work.
These engines create listings and rate them based on a bid amount the website owner is willing to pay for each click from that search engine. Advertisers bid against each other to receive higher ranking for a specific keyword or phrase.
The highest bidder for a certain keyword or phrase will then have the site ranked as number 1 in the PPC Search Engines followed by the second and third highest bidder, up to the last number that have placed a bid on the same keyword or phrase. Your ads then will appear prominently on the results pages based on the dollar amount bid you will agree to pay per click.
How do you make money by using PPC into your affiliate marketing business?
Most affiliate programs only pay when a sale is made or a lead delivered after a visitor has clickthrough your site. Your earnings will not always be the same as they will be dependent on the web site content and the traffic market.
The reason why you should incorporate PPC into your affiliate marketing program is that earnings are easier to make than in any other kind of affiliate program not using PPC. This way, you will be making profit based from the clickthroughs that your visitor will make on the advertiser’s site. Unlike some programs, you are not paid per sale or action.
PPC can be very resourceful of your website. With PPC Search Engines incorporated into your affiliate program, you will be able to profit from the visitor’s who are not interested in your products or services. The same ones who leave your site and never comes back.
You will not only get commissions from those who are just searching the web and finding the products and services that they wanted, you will also be able to build your site’s recognition as a valuable resource. The visitors who have found what they needed from your site are likely to come back and review what you are offering more closely. Then they will eventually come back to search the web for other products.
This kind of affiliate program is also an easy way for you to generate some additional revenue. For example, when a visitor on your site does a search in the PPC Search Engine and clicks on the advertiser bided listings, the advertisers’ account will then be deducted because of that click. With this, you will be compensated 30% to 80% of the advertisers’ bid amount.
PPC is not only a source of generating easy profits; it can also help you promote your own site. Most of the programs allow the commissions received to be spent for advertising with them instantly and with no minimum earning requirement. This is one of the more effective ways to exchange your raw visitors for targeted surfers who has more tendencies to purchase your products and services.
What will happen if you when you integrate PPC into your affiliate program?
PPC usually has ready-to-use affiliate tools that can be easily integrated into your website. The most common tools are search boxes, banners, text links and some 404-error pages. Most search engines utilize custom solutions and can provide you with a white-label affiliate program. This enables you, using only a few lines of code, to integrate remotely-hosted co-branded search engine into your website.
The key benefits? Not only more money generated but also some extra money on the side. Plus a lifetime commissions once you have referred some webmaster friends to the engine.
Think about it. Where can you get all these benefits while already generating some income for your site? Knowing some of the more useful tools you can use for your affiliate program is not a waste of time. They are rather a means of earning within an earning.
Best to know more about how you can use PPC search engines in your affiliate program than miss out on a great opportunity to earn more profits.

Spelling Games: A Fun and Easy Way To Learn
Games are kids’ favorite pastime. We can motivate, grab their interest, and teach them almost anything while they are having fun. Take a look at free on line games for kids. There are thousands of them on the internet that showcase educational games, and play to learn strategies driven by curiosity and eagerness to master simple and then more challenging tasks.
Although these materials would really be a channel for these kids to excel in Math, Science, Spelling, etc., many parents are reluctant to encourage children to use computer games. They are afraid they will waste their time.
For example, if you wanted to teach spelling to children, would they know where to start? A google search might be a good beginning. First parents could take a look, and then show their children how to search and how to choose a safe, easy, fun game. Can you really go on line and practice math or other skills? It can be of great benefit these days because kids need to learn internet savvy.
School is tough if new words show up and you do not know their meaning or how to spell them. It’s a better idea to start young kids with practices to be saturated with words. A new word or words per day would benefit them a lot!
The strategy is to immerse them in books, games that incorporate words, and enhance their listening skills by exposing them to theatrical plays, TV/radio newscasts. Even watching SCRIPPS national spelling bee on televisions would stir their interest on spelling and vocabulary.
Although you can encourage them to read books or magazines, many of them will not like to do this. In that event, let them play games on line through the use of SMART GAMES. Many sites and games on line are free or for pay, but be sure to test them first before letting your young genius use it.
These games will dominate your child’s attention so that they can get the knowledge they need. This is where on line games make a difference from other games for children. There is a high retention rate for those who are exposed to these games. Thus, the more a game is played, the more likely it would be a learning experience for kids.
For them it takes less effort to play, because they are having fun and the games are easy to learn. The rewards are great, an investment in your child’s future success. They get quality computer time and yet benefit from learning words or math. Consider learning games for any age child. You’ll be happy that you made this wise decision to invest in your child’s future.
The most important point here is make it a habit to watch your children’s development. Your seemingly small contribution can bring a large reward by honing your child’s abilities.
