One Year Later, Is the Playstation 3 Still An Option For Me?
On November 16th, Playstation 3 celebrates its first birthday. The newest addition to the Playstation family officially became one year old, and despite an admittedly slow start, business is definitely on the rise. According to a report by GameDaily, PS3 sales has reach 5.6 million units worldwide, out of which 2 million of those sales came in North America. As part of Sony’s strategy to increase their market share, it plans to release around 160 new Playsyation 3 title before the end of the fiscal year.
But when it comes to us, the game console users, a fair question to ask is; is the PS3 still worth for me?
There are many features to the Playstation 3 that have many saying “I want it” With its Boasting Blu-Ray and up to a 60 Gigabyte of hard drive, PS3 is moving ahead to become the gaming system that will be sitting on the top of the video game world for years to come. However, some don’t believe all the hype.
The Playstation family of game consoles began its dominance of the video game world in 1994 with the Playstation 2 following suit in the year 2000. In the early 2006, Sony reported that the end of the Playstation 2 was at hand and with the launch of the Playstation 3, a new generation of video gaming was about to hit the market. So this has left many asking if the high price tag on the PS3 is worth paying. There are several exceptional reasons, which include the following:
Its Blu-Ray technology is utilized on the new PS3 games and it will allow the usage of six times more data than traditional game discs. This will provide for video games that boast incredibly complex game playing graphics. Blu-Ray technology will likely aide in bringing back a number of forever-favorite classic video game titles.
Playstation fans and current console owners don’t have to go out and purchase an entirely new collection of games, since the PS3 is equipped to play – not only Playstation games – but PS2 games as well, leveraging on a vast collection of games already in the market.
Gamers are now able to connect with other game-playing fanatics online in addition to being able to download quite a bit of content from the Internet, something that Microsoft has a strong hand with its Xbox Live. This multiplayer game playing capability makes the PS3 appealing to large numbers of video game playing fanatics by allowing video game systems to be able to compete with a huge majority of personal computer games.
You have the option of paying out less money with the base Playstation 3 model, although you get fewer features. A 20 Gigabyte model of the PS3 can be had for around $500 while the often harder to find 60 Gigabyte model weighs in at $600.
Now while most avid gamers will tell you that the Playstation 3 is second to none in the video game industry right now, there are a couple of bad points to the system. In order to get the superior graphic capabilities of the PS3, you need to have a deep wallet as the PS3 retails at $600.
The Playstation and the Playstation 2 simply don’t compare. While the earlier PS2 sported a light weigh slim case, the PS3 weighs in at a heftier eleven pounds. So while there are many that may not see the point of spending so much money on a video gaming system, if you are a hardcore video game enthusiast you simply can’t compare the gaming experience that the PS3 can provide you with.

Three Great Game Titles for Playstation 3
As Playstation 3, or PS 3 for short, is claiming its place as a premier video gaming system, comes the opportunity for a truly unique gaming experience for gamers of all ages and skill sets. With breathtaking graphics and spectacular features such as reduced save times, the PS3 has been all set to dominate the video game world for quite some time.
Now with all the talk of how great the Playstation 3 is, gamers should be expecting equally exceptional games to play. Here are several titles that gamers should be looking to buy:
Resistance: Fall of Man:
Resistance: Fall of Man, sometimes referred to as Fall of Man, Resistance and even RFOM in the video gaming community, was released by Insomniac Games as a PlayStation 3 launch title in Japan and the United States on November, 2006 and in Europe on March, 2007.
The game’s plot begins in 1951, with a United States Army Rangers’ 5,000-man task force where the protagonist, Sgt. Nathan Hale, works with the task force to help liberate Britain and to retrieve a secret weapon that the British claim can be used against the Chimera, a fictional race.
Among the awards received, Resistance: Fall of Man was awarded Gamespot’s Best PlayStation 3 game of 2006 and IGN’s PlayStation 3 Game of the Year 2006, Best First-Person Shooter on PlayStation 3 of 2006 and Best Graphics Technology on PlayStation 3 in 2006 among other, which speaks loudly about quality of the quality of the gaming experience.
Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground:
Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, sometimes referred to as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 9, is a video game developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles by Neversoft and for the PlayStation 2 and Wii by Page 44 Studios. Proving Ground is the ninth game in the Tony Hawk’s video games series.
Because of its appealing to an active game and adventure group and with Tony Hawk’s name behind it, this video game is currently one of the hottest titles the PS3 has to offer.
Final Fantasy XIII:
Without a doubt, Final Fantasy XIII is one of the most anticipated titles set for eventual release for the Sony Playstation 3. So far, only information on two of the characters have been released: a mysterious woman wielding what appears to be a weapon that can seamlessly switch from a sword to a firearm, who goes by the name “Lightning”, and all that is known of the other character is that he is an enormous man who is allied with Lightning.
In a departure from the usual feminine females that populate the worlds of Final Fantasy Lightning there’s said to be a female version of Cloud, the hero of Final Fantasy 7.
Battles will be quite different in Final Fantasy XIII from earlier installments. Real time battles will occur with no arc between the character attacking and the one defending themselves. Summons such as the icy Shiva will be able to be summoned into battle and be made doubly useful by being able to morph into items such as motorcycles.
While the majority of games being released for play on the Playstation 3 are brand new titles, there are some mind-blowing sequels in the works as well. A new version of the already famous Gran Turismo and the finale to the epic God of War are in the works for eventual release for the PS3.
With a video game market hungry for new games and new advances in gaming technology continually in the works, video games titles for the Playstation 3 promise to provide the highest quality gaming experience possible for PS3 fans and a lot of work for reviewers, critics and cheat code enthusiast.

Tips For Installing Your Nintendo Wii
Before connecting your Nintendo Wii anywhere, decide first how you would like to position it. You can choose whether you want to lay it flat or let it stand vertically using the Wii console stand and plate that comes with the package. This allows you a little flexibility in terms of storage options so you won’t have a lot of concerns when it comes to space. An important thing to note though: position your it to allow enough space for the internal fan to work.
Plugging the console
Next, plug the AC cord into the input connector that is located at the back of the console. The console has an AV (Audio/Video) Multi-Out plug that lets you connect to most TV and VCR units. Connect the AV Cable plugs into the connectors on your TV. Take care to note the color code of the connectors: red for right audio input, white for left audio input and yellow for video input.
After the connectors are in place, turn on the TV and the Wii console. On the TV, look for Input Select, AUX for auxiliary or Source or EXT for external. Use the channel where you’re usually tuned in to view videos. Choose the Nintendo game.
Connecting to the VCR
If you want to use the VCR, set the unit to VCR and then put in a tape, press play and then press stop. The game image should show up on the screen. If your speakers are plugged in, the sound should come out from there.
Locating the sensor bar
The Sensor Bar may be placed near the TV, ideally above or below the screen. Insert the Sensor plug into the Sensor connector found on the back of the console. However else you may wish to mount it, make sure the Sensor Bar is aligned close to the TV, preferably in front.
Check the System Setting of the console to ensure that the location option for the Sensor Bar is set accordingly. To check if the location is ideal, take note of the reception and make necessary adjustments.
Using the Wiimote
Two AA batteries are used with the Wiimote. Use the wrist strap to keep the remote snug and fit in your hand. There is no problem about synchronizing the Wiimote that already comes included in your package, but if you are using additional units, you might need to synch them to use them properly.
To synch, you can use the standard mode or the one-time mode. The one-time mode is reserved for Wiimotes you don’t usually use with your console and the standard mode is used for additional units.
Nintendo Wii Accessories You Ought to Have
Nintendo is one of the top innovators when it comes to accessories such as controllers and its designs have become a much sought-after industry standard. The Nintendo Wii by itself comes with some simple fun via is Wii Sports game, but if you want to enjoy the experience to the fullest, here are a few accessories you might want to pick up for yourself:
More controllers
Nintendo Wii comes complete with a two-in-one controller : that is, a nunchuk and a Wiimote, but you might want more for two-player games like boxing or tennis. The Wii can accommodate four controllers, but get an extra nunchuk for $20 and another Wiimote for $40 to maximize your game.
GameCube memory cards
Why? If you’re playing GameCube games on the Wii, you’ll want to save your efforts in case you need to take a break and you can’t do that to the Wii’s built-in memory. You can only save to a GameCube memory card. Older GameCube cards will do, but if you don’t have one, be prepared to shell out about $25.
GameCube controllers
Nintendo Wii has backward adaptability in that it can still accommodate GameCube, although you’ll need a GameCube controller to play the game to satisfy your nostalgia. GC controller will cost about $25 or get a wireless Nintendo WaveBird for a few dollars more, although your older GC controllers will suffice.
SD Card
Time will come when you’ll use up the Wii’s 512MB, so give yourself more space with a new SD card. Although you can buy one from Nintendo, any SD card will do. A good one to get is a 1GB card for all the space you need and that will set you back by about $25 to $30.
Batteries
Get the rechargeable ones because the Wiimote is a regular power gobbler. It uses two standard AAs which are included in the Wii package and with the controller unit in case you’re buying a separate one. You’ll need extra battery power for the nunchuk. You can save more if you buy rechargeable NiMH ones and a charger.
Wii Points
Not exactly your hard accessory per se, but this is one of the draws of the Wii’s Virtual Console. The Wii Points are good to have if you plan to buy Nintendo’s classic games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Donkey Kong and Super Mario 64. The Wii Points function like real currency and has a dollar exchange rate of 100 points to 1 US dollar. Buy the points via Nintendo’s prepaid cards or from its online store.

The Good and Bad Impacts of Online Gaming
The rise in the use of the Internet has led to many changes in our daily lives. In particular, this rise has also led to the rise of online gaming. We can still recall a time when we were limited by slow computers with crawling dialup speed. In the past, people could never have imagined the great leaps that would be taken in the field of online games. Today, online games are very advanced.
These days, gaming technology has progressed to an amazing extent. Things like streaming 3-D animation graphics with superb surround sound stereo now have the ability to make us all addicted to gaming.
Playing online games is so much more different than playing games in a single player mode where your only challenge is to beat the computer. If you are into online gaming, you can challenge some of the top gamers in the world. In fact, certain game platforms cater to this by having rankings to determine the champions. There can be no doubt that with this ranking system, gamers have become very motivated to win.
Becoming the best is important to most of these gamers. Whether it is RPG (role playing games), shooting or strategy games, it is not surprising to see that online gaming is not just a teenage obsession. People of all ages are hooked on to online gaming.
Nowadays, online games are so popular that we can even see annual game tournaments being organized around the world. Sponsors make it a point to offer great prizes to the participants. Some of these tournaments are so well organized that they are comparable to the high standards of other international sports tournaments with big sponsors and advanced facilities. Thanks to all these developments, a niche has been created for professional gamers.
Their job is to hone their skills and pursue gaming just like any other sports person would. The emergence of online games also created many opportunities for gamers to increase their income. Many people do not realize that with the market becoming so huge and with the race to be at the top, people are actually willing to pay to obtain these virtual online characters. This act is known as “farming”, whereby you develop a character and sell it.
But not everything is cool about the online games of the world. The world has become so attached to online gaming that many people prefer to interact only through games. They loathe the idea of social interaction. This, of course, is not advisable. In fact, some also link this trend to unhealthy lifestyles because it also means sitting in one position all day without much activity. Young people are especially susceptible to the lure of online games which leads them to neglect school.
But gaming does have its positive aspects as well. For instance, by limiting gaming to a certain number of hours a day, there can actually be some positive effects. Scientific studies have found that online games can train the human mind to be agile and alert. Gamers are always exposed to conditions whereby they have to learn to adapt and develop certain strategies in order to survive. At the end of the day it will depend on whether the gamer in question can avoid getting addicted and treats gaming as a great pastime.
