Satellites Are The New Super Antenna

A large number of Americans enjoy their TV time, but those of us who live too far outside the city limits usually either have to have satellite service or must choose to have no TV at all, except for perhaps using an old fashioned antenna that is connected to the house.

Many of us remember satellite television when it first debuted years ago and recall the huge clunky dishes that had to be planted in the backyard to gain service. It had to be adjusted and re-adjusted to make sure it was correctly aligned and was quite the eyesore, especially if you like your yard to look a certain way.

Satellite service has come quite a long way from the huge dishes, snowy receptions, and high prices and has recently become much more affordable and of a much higher quality and many services offer a lot more customization options than in times past. The satellite dish is typically less than one tenth of the size of the old large dishes and instead of only being able to watch one channel throughout the entire house, you can now watch a different channel in almost as many rooms as you could need. Have four bedrooms and a den and want to be able to watch different channels in each one? Satellite services could not offer that option when they first debuted on the scene as an alternative to cable, but they certainly do now. And many services offer hundreds of channels to choose from and some have added a new service that allows you to select programs from a library to watch any time you want to.

Speaking of programming, most of us know what pay per view is and with the satellite services of today, you can usually watch movies via pay per view when they are released to theaters, so if you want to stay home instead of going out, stay in, save money, and view your movie of choice in the comfort of your own home.

Satellite services also offer a number of shopping channels, so you can shop from the convenience of your recliner if you need to. From jewelry to clothing to electronics and more, whatever satellite service you choose will most likely offer a shopping channel to accommodate your needs.

So many different things are offered via your satellite service that for movies, entertainment, and even shopping, you may not need to leave the house.

Satellite TV Has Come A Long Way And Now Leads The pack

Satellite television service has come a long way since it was first introduced to the entertainment industry so many years ago. While it used to be a hassle to have it installed, expensive once it was, and inconvenient both to use and get rid of, none of these things are true in this day and age.

These days, satellite service for the televisions in your home is inexpensive to have installed (installation is often free), inexpensive to have ongoing service, and has a gentle learning curve for those of us who are used to having cable.

Remember those huge satellite dishes that had to be installed in the backyard? Gone are those days and now, the satellite can be about twice the size of a dinner plate (if that large) and can be mounted discreetly on the side of the house or on the roof.

The only thing that you might have to worry about with satellite service is it going out during precipitation or very cloudy days, but even cable service goes out during storms from time to time.

Your satellite service is also able to offer you a large number of channels, many more so than your local cable provider is able to offer you. While having more channels will definitely cost you more money, introductory packages are often loaded with all the basic channels that a family would want to watch.

Pay per view programming can also be purchased and the great thing about this is when a movie that has just been released to the theaters becomes available. You can stay home and watch that movie you have been waiting on to come out for months instead of going to a crowded theater.

Satellite has also become much more convenient to use in homes that have more than one or two people in them. If you have 4 or 5 people living in a household, it is extremely unlikely that you will all want to watch the same thing.

Back when satellite was first introduced, only one channel was available at a time, no matter how many TV’s were connected to it. These days it is possible to watch almost as many channels at one time as you have televisions, usually up to 6.

Some satellite services even have game channels where you can play games with other satellite subscribers or you can just play against the system. These games cost money, of course, but if you are bored and looking for something to do, they are a great source of entertainment.

The practicality of satellite television service has grown and has become much less expensive over the years.

Satellite TV Gives You Total Control

If you have kids in the house and you want to control what programs they are watching on television, you may want to consider switching from your cable TV service to satellite instead.

There are a lot of features that satellite services offer these days that they did not used to and services that most cable TV providers have not been able to offer. A large number of parents these days like to have control over what their children watch on TV, especially since the number of graphic programs has risen significantly over the past 20 years.

Not even prime time TV can be trusted to have clean content for families to watch anymore, but satellite TV services often have the answer.

With most satellite TV services, you can block certain channels from certain TVs in the household by requiring a passcode to access them. If a person does not know the passcode, the channel cannot be watched on that particular television.

In most cases, if your children have access to other televisions in the house, it is best to passcode the same channels on all of them just to be safe.

In addition to being able to block complete channels from your child’s TV, you can also block certain types of programming by blocking them either by their content or by their rating. This means that if the child tries to watch something you have restricted, the passcode is required to override it.

You are also able in some cases to set what times of day and night a TV is allowed to be watched. So, if you do not want your kids coming straight home from school and turning on the TV instead of doing their homework, you can set the receiver to not receive a satellite signal until you want it to.

Programs can also usually be autotuned, which means if there is a show that you and your whole family want to watch (or perhaps just you), you can program the satellite receiver to automatically tune to it when it is scheduled to come on. This is a great convenience if you are forgetful and do not want to miss a show you were really looking forward to watching.

One of the final perks about satellite TV service is that some of them offer libraries of movies and television shows that you can call up and watch whenever you feel like it instead of having to wait for a show to come on.

The Amazing Rise In Popularity Of Satellite TV Services

Many senior citizens alive in the 1930’s remember their first television vividly, but the majority of people didn’t own televisions until later on when they became more affordable after the 1950’s. Even then they were not as common in some areas of the United States as they were in others, particularly in rural versus urban communities.

Most people do not know it, but cable television came on the scene not much later than the television set itself did. It first became available in 1948 and with cable subscription service offered in 1949.

It grew in popularity for years and at its current level, it can be said that about 85% of homes in the United States have access to cable television.

These days, though, the thing that continues to rise in popularity is satellite TV service. A large number of people are noticing the additional conveniences and perks of having a satellite subscription instead of a subscription to cable TV and the number of people who are switching to satellite service is skyrocketing.

People now not only wish to control what channels they allow to be broadcast in their homes, but they also want to be able to set certain hours that the television can be watched in certain rooms and control which shows can be watched at all. Cable TV services do not offer these options or the other options available to satellite subscribers.

Satellite service also offers the convenience of service beyond populated areas where cable TV service does not. Most cable TV services only extend so far outside the city limits as they can find subscribers, but if you have a cabin in the mountains, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to acquire cable there.

Fortunately for you, satellite service can be maintained almost anywhere in the world where there is a clear sky. The weather can have an effect on your satellite service just as it can have an effect on cable service.

Storms or excessively cloudy skies can cause the signal to be lost for a short period of time, but this is typically the extent of your service interruption due to the weather.

In addition, some satellite TV services offer satellite radio stations, as well, such as XM and Sirius and will offer you more of these stations depending on what size channel package you choose.

Pay per view channels are also popular with satellite subscribers and can be an economical alternative to going to the theater for entertainment.
