Writer’s Block? Go to These Places to Focus and Remedy Writer’s Block

Have you ever thought you had everything you needed to write the perfect article or story? You have the perfect topic to write on, you have the topic brainstormed and outlined, but you can not seem to stay focus for more than a couple of minutes at a time. Changing your surroundings may be the answer to solving your writer’s block.

At the Office

If you have not tried it yet, look into getting some writing done at your office/job. There are several times during the day, breaks and lunch hours, that you can devote a few minutes to working on a writing assignment. Instead of spending time at the water cooler, you can make better use of your free time at work by writing.

Just like feeling sleepy when you are relaxing in your bedroom or feeling hungry in the presence of food, being at the office gives most people a feeling of being productive and ready to work.

During your breaks, close your office door, turn down the phone ringer, and start writing. Sitting at your desk, with no distractions, you will be surprised at how focused and alert you will be. Besides, why should all of your most productive hours of the day be spent making someone else rich?

On the Beach

Whenever you have some free time to devote to writing, instead of sitting at your kitchen table, try heading out to the beach. For me, there is something about the sounds of the breaking waves and the wind blowing that gives me a relaxing feeling.

There are plenty of distractions at the beach, but these are not the kinds of distractions that will bother you while writing. There is a difference between a loud television and kids climbing on your back at home and watching ships sail by, seagulls fly above and airplanes head toward its destination all while lying on a white sand beach.

Get started by taking a bottle of sun block, a refreshing drink, and then find a nice quiet spot where you can focus.

Local Public Library

The Public Library is a great place to write because it is full of free resources and people are usually forced to be quiet. The library is no longer a “building with books.” Today, libraries are equipped with the latest technologies. Card holders have access to computers, electronic catalogs, and other multimedia equipment.

Also, by being in a library, you will have, at your figure tips, volumes and volumes of books and periodicals to use at your leisure. Finding a source for your work will literally be only a few steps away.

Do You Lack Ideas To Becoming An Author?

Thinking about being an author? Do you feel that you have a lack of ideas or have nothing that you can write about?

Are you good at playing computer games? There’s a guy whose name is Bert Ingley, from the United States. He loves playing computer games, especially sports games in the area of American football computer games. And he wrote a book on how to play sports games and he sell its on the Internet.

His website is called “maddentips.com”. And he makes over $200,000 US a year selling his e-book on how to play that game.

Go to Google and type “lizard care book”, or, “lizard care book”. You will find a guy who sells books on how to take care of lizards and he makes hundreds of thousands of US on that.

There’s also a whole series on how to take care of your dog, how to take care of your pet rabbit and many other different kinds of pets that you can think of.

Thus you can become an author just by writing about what you are good at

Here’s another recommendation for you to obtain the ideas you need to become an author. Do you know that you can construct a book that doesn’t have to be written just by you?

It could be a compilation of articles and nowadays you’ve got what we call public domain and its starting to get really, really popular.

A few examples I can give you is Peter Pan. You can publish a book on Peter Pan and not get sued because it’s public domain. It’s the same for “Dracula”, and “Think and Grow Rich”. All these and a few other famous titles are all listed under public domain

For those of you who are interested, you can go to Project Gutenberg. You can find it on Google, on a Google search or head down to “Gutenberg.org”. What you will find is that any book that is published before 1923, you will be able to use it, modify it because there’s no copyright ownership over that so it’s an interesting thing.

In other words, you can write all those books and take all the content.

Here’s a real life funny example. There’s this lady, her name is Cindy
Cashman. You can visit her website at “CindyCashman.com”. What happened to her was that she was dead broke and she came up with this idea of writing a book.

What did she do.? She wrote a blank book. And her book is called “Everything Men Know About Women”. Now she has sold a million copies of that book. writing it under the pseudonym Dr Alan.

Through the examples and recommendations given above, you can now be sure that you will never run out of ideas or contents to write your very own book and becoming an author.

How to Write A Better Composition

Below are some tips on how you can write better student compositions. Choosing the right topic will get you off on the right foot.

1. Use your own experiences. Is there anything you know better than yourself and the things you’ve lived through? Is there anyone who can tell you better what interests you than you can yourself? The richest source of material for any topic is what happens to you from day to day. Take a tip from the professionals. They reach into their past for the moments and episodes that brought them pleasure, excitement, even pain – anything, so long as it is interesting to look back upon. Or they go out and gather material by living it.

That’s the formula: interest plus experience. Write about things you know first hand, incidents that stimulate some emotion in you when you review them, events that were a change from the routine, or sometimes the routine itself can be made exciting to a reader.

Take advantage of human curiosity. We are all born with the desire to pry into the private lives of other people. Tell others about yourself, what happens at home, in school, on vacations – the little things, the ones the reader will be able to compare with his own experiences.

2. Don’t ignore the commonplace. When you were told to concentrate on the little things in using your experiences for composition material, you perhaps took it for granted that the reference was to the unusual incident or sight. Undoubtedly the out-of-the-ordinary provides the greatest interest for the reader and you should certainly try to use such material whenever you can. However, you can often create a very entertaining topic out of the routine daily occurrences that you never give much attention.

3. Vary your approach. Try taking an unexpected point of view toward a commonly accepted belief or tradition. Occasionally, this technique can be very effective. For instance, one is supposed to revere one’s relatives, but extraordinary humor can be found when you take a slightly negative view of your subject.

4. Get the facts. Never attempt to write on a topic about which you are poorly informed. Your scanty knowledge will show through like an elbow out of a threadbare sleeve. If you are not permitted to personalize or you don’t want to with a particular assignment, make sure you have the necessary facts before you plunge in. Go to the library and do some research, if there is time. Perhaps some book at home will do the trick.

5. Limit the scope. This is one of the most important cautions you must observe. It means simply that the ground you expect to cover with your topic must be no broader than is dictated by the number of words you have been asked to write. If the composition calls for 250-300 words, avoid handling a huge topic.

6. Take a stand. Whenever you must write about a controversial topic, don’t sit on the fence. If you do, the result will generally be weak and unconvincing. Make up your mind and swing out hard, one way or the other. If you are for the idea, be 100 percent for it, but be sure to back up your statements with acceptable arguments.

If you are against the idea, go all out to oppose it and fire away with all the factual weapons you have at your command. Never allow yourself to be found with both feet planted firmly in the air. Stay on solid ground, use statistics and references, and say Yes or No in a loud voice.

Before you choose a topic:
Pick the one that allows you to personalize.
If you have no choice, try to personalize the one that has been assigned.
Don’t ignore the commonplace.
Be well-informed about factual or controversial topics before you write.
Limit your scope in proportion to the number of words required.
Make up your mind about topics that can be argued, and then argue with all your skill.
Use these tips to write a much better composition.

Passion And Purpose -The Two Key Elements For Writing

Do you have a goal of becoming an author with a best selling title under your name? Do you find yourself lacking the right reasons or purpose in writing your book?

Here’s a real life example that shares what drove me to produce my best selling book.

What happened was that when I started to learn multiple learning techniques from different people and had achieved getting good results through the use of these techniques. I wad so excited to share my experiences with the techniques that I had applied, so I started telling all my friends about it.

And the next thing I did was writing the information on A4 pieces of paper.
I started photocopying, and gave them to my friends as articles. It was not even typewritten because at that point of time, I did not know how to use the computer. Thus every week I was producing these handwritten articles on A4 pieces of paper.

Every week, all my friends in school would be receiving an article from Adam. For example, this week the article will be “How to improve your memory”. The next day, the article will be “How to Speed Read” and I just wrote and wrote and wrote.

Time passed and I realized that I had this whole stack of handwritten articles. Then I told myself, “Wouldn’t it be cool if I could put all these together and share it with the rest of the world?” These handwritten articles provided the groundwork that led to the production of the actual book.

And when I started writing, I realized that it would establish my authority and credibility as a trainer and speaker. This is itself a very good reason why most people should write books. So for example if you are a lawyer, by writing a book, you automatically establish yourself as the authority in law.

Ultimately what happened was it became a No 1 bestseller and provided an additional source of passive income for me.

The reason why a lot of people find it really tough to write, 5 pages, let alone 300 pages is because they are writing something they don’t love writing about. Another reason is that it is not their true passion or their true interest.

If you were to ask a normal kid to write about what they learnt from the best computer games as well as all the secret codes, guess what? Most of them are able and can write at least 10 books on that.

And all of us, every single one of us know certain things that other people have little knowledge about and all of us have got certain areas of expertise, and something that we are interested in.

In other words, there is a book in every single one of us. Therefore it’s a question of finding the passion and purpose of that will lead to one writing a book.
